Taipei Theme Restaurants – Friends Central Park Cafe

Friends Coffee Shop Taipei_DoorThe latest to join the theme restaurant craze in Taiwan is the newly opened Central Park Cafe, a replica coffee shop on Roosevelt Road that is based on the TV show Friends.

Of course, as soon as I heard about it, I had to go. I am a true Monica.

Central Park Cafe Taipei_Friends CafeFor those of you who might need a reminder, Rachel worked as a waitress at Central Perk Cafe in New York. Central Perk was known for its signature orange velvet sofa and extra large coffees. It was also one of the main sets for many hilarious episodes of Friends. (This show never gets old!)

Central Park Cafe is crammed full of cool paraphernalia from the tv series, which was aired from 1994-2004. It really does look a lot like the tv set. The only difference is that the coffee house in the tv show had a lot more stuff in it, but I have no doubt that the owner will continue to add to her collection. I think they’ve done a fantastic job with the design so far.

The cafe has a selection of coffees to choose from. They also have an interesting selection of beers from around the world. The food is fairly standard for theme restaurants in Taipei. It’s nothing special as of yet, but the cafe has only been open for a month. Perhaps they’ll add to the menu.Friends Coffee Shop Taipei_5

In any case, if you’re a Friends fan, you’re not going for the food, right? You’re going for those giant cups of coffee and to kick back and relax on that velvet orange couch. (Which is exactly what I did.)

The owner of Central Park Cafe has a fun selection of DVDs, books, posters and games. There are also two coloring drawings of Rachel and Joey’s apartment and of Monica and Chandler’s apartment that are really cool.

Friends Coffee Shop Taipei_1I have never been able to pass up a theme restaurant and Taipei’s theme restaurants are no exception to my rule.
Stay tuned for more updates. You won’t believe some of the interesting new places that have opened in Taiwan recently!
