Maobitou Scenic Area in Kenting National Park

Maobitou Scenic Area in Kenting National Park

By Carrie on February 23, 2013

The terrain of Maobitou Scenic Area in Kenting National Park in Taiwan is a limestone reef coast that is said to resemble the form of a crouching cat looking out to sea. This area is also famous because a scene from Ang Lee’s film Life of Pi was filmed here. (Photo Essay and travel information)

Callas From Yangmingshan

By Carrie on May 20, 2008

When I posted on the Yangmingshan Calla Lily Festival last month, I deliberately broke my photos up into two sets. I like all these photos equally, but sometimes when I display them all in a row, some don’t stand out right away. I like to offer these little mini photo essays because it gives me [...]

Taiwan Travel Photo Journal – The Jewel of Taiwan’s National Park System: Taroko Gorge

By Carrie on March 14, 2007

Our first view of Tianshiang, deep in the heart of Taroko Gorge National Park We arrived in the heart of Toroko Gorge after a butt-numbing drive along narrow mountain roads and through rock blasted tunnels. Most of the roads from the Kuan Yuan Sea of Clouds on through to Tianshiang were a winding, twisting mess. I [...]

I’ve Walked The Central Cross Island Highway

I’ve Walked The Central Cross Island Highway

By Carrie on March 9, 2007

This is one of my favorite photos from our trip.  A lone bike on the open road.  What a way to travel Taiwan! I found this inscription just outside of Chinma Tunnel at the entrance to the old Hehuan Mountain Trail. I paused to jot it down in my journal and thought it was only fitting that I [...]

By Carrie on February 23, 2007

Wild daisy at Lavender Cottage, Hsinchu County, Taiwan.  July 2006 After recently returned from an amazing journey on the Central Cross-Island Highway, through Toroko Gorge and up the Eastern coastline of Ilan, we still have a few days left of our vacation time here in Taiwan.  We’re devoting the rest of today to explore a [...]
