Sunset at Haad Rin Nai

Travel Thailand: This is Koh Phangan

By Carrie on March 21, 2009

The ferry arrived at Haad Rin Nai Beach from Big Buddha at sunset. Legions of sybaritic party-lovers disembark three days before the first Full Moon Party of the year kicks off on Haad Rin Beach. This is Koh Phangan, island oasis for hippie backpackers looking for a good time.

The Golden Pavilion of Kyoto

Kyoto’s Heavenly Golden Pavilion

By Carrie on January 17, 2009

The Japanese are experts at urban landscaping, and one of their most superb examples is Kyoto’s Golden Pavilion, also known as Kinkaku-ji, formally known as Rokuon-ji or “Deer Garden Temple”.

Photo Moment: Viva la Villa!

By Carrie on December 29, 2008

Taiwan’s Penghu Islands are full of delightful little villas perfect for a romantic weekend getaway.  I saw this villa while on vacation with my co-workers last July and I’m dying to share it with John. We’re hoping to make this one of our ‘special’ places this coming year.

25 Things I Want To Do Before I Die

By Carrie on December 27, 2008

Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do. – Unknown. Everyone has dreams.  These are a few of mine. Go on a helicopter ride. Run a marathon. [...]

Hang Song Sot Cave Exploring in Northern Vietnam

By Carrie on August 31, 2008

A magical travel moment:  A pure beam of white light appeared before our eyes in the dim darkness of Hang Sung Sot, a vast mountain cave that winds its way through a few immense chambers before exiting out onto a narrow walkway that lends an unprecedented view of Halong Bay. Hang Song Sot (Surprising Cave) [...]

Postcards From Penghu, With Love

By Carrie on July 28, 2008

I promised a full update on my adventures in Penghu and since we are ‘hunkered down’ on a typhoon day here in Taipei, I figured this afternoon would be the perfect time to catch up on my blog to-do list. As I am looking at my travel notes and photos though, I’m realizing that I’m [...]

Taiwan Travel: The Penghu Islands

By Carrie on July 20, 2008

Imagine miles of bare, unspoiled golden beaches. Imagine a place that is unpolluted. No garbage litters the white coral and sand beaches of Penghu. There are no flagrant displays of commercialism or hordes of camera-toting tourists here. In some places, you can still walk down to the water’s edge to search for raw, fresh oysters [...]

Some Fun in the Sun

By Carrie on July 13, 2008

Hey folks.  Vacation time is here again and this time, I’m heading to the islands of Penghu for a few days.  This will be my first trip without John in awhile and also, coincidentally, my first trip with just Taiwanese friends.  I’ve committed myself to using Chinese for the duration of the trip. I’m looking [...]
