Carrie Marshall is the author of My Several Worlds, where she offers colorful anecdotes and eye-catching photography to illustrate the several worlds she lives in. She has been bouncing around in Asia for the past six years and currently calls Planet Taiwan her home.
Her first introduction to Asian lifestyle was in Northern China, where she taught English and moonlighted as a rock and roll singer in the evenings. She has performed in several Beijing television programs and has lent her voice to Radio Taxi Driver English in Changchun.
Carrie is an amateur photographer with a vivid and active interest in other cultures. She writes about her cultural observations and travel adventures for several publications in Asia. She spends most of her free time on the road with her fiance, John Kellenberger.
Carrie Marshall works with several on-line publications. She hosts Taiwan Photographers. She is a regular contributor to Expatrialogues, a website dedicated to connecting travelers around the world.

John Kellenberger AKA Mr. Globetrotter
John and I fit together like pieces to a puzzle. He’s my best friend and confidant; my other half. He’s the one I share my hopes and dreams with. I am constantly delighted and moved by the many different ways he takes care of me.
John’s abilities are completely opposite to mine and I think that’s why we fit together so well. He’s a gifted athlete and loves to participate as well as spectate. He’s also tremendously skilled in math, business and computers, with natural confidence and ability in navigational and mechanical skills. He honed these skills while in university and graduated with a degree in International Business. Upon graduation, he left to work in an Internship Program with FAW in Changchun, China. It was under these circumstances that we were able to find each other in North East China. We met through a mutual friend by chance and fell in love. It is a mystery to me that we were able to find each other on the other side of the world. I have finally found someone to share my dreams with. We fit together like two peas in a pod. We want to travel and see everything that this big wonderful world has to offer.
I really admire John’s ability to get us where we need to go when we need to go. He’s a genius at mapping things out and he does it quickly and efficiently. His navigational skills never fail to impress me. I swear he has a personal GPS system buried in that big beautiful brain of his. Personally, I think he dreams in landscapes, but he says he doesn’t dream. He’s also a motorcyle enthusiast and we spend a lot of time on the bike, exploring the island of Taiwan. Most of our travels throughout Asia have been by motorcycle. It’s a great way to travel and one that I would certainly never do on my own. If the planning were left up to me, I’d have us going around in circles and doubling back half the time. So, my job is to provide the occasional map direction, cultural input, historical background, and of course, to entertain you all. Really though, this blog wouldn’t even exist without him. He is such a big part of it.
We are currently living and teaching in Taipei, Taiwan and are engaged to be married in November 2008.

My sister taught in Taiwan as well and she told me it’s a wonderful experience, though i doubt i’ll ever become an ESL teacher. I hope your adventures there and abroad usher in great memories.

Carrie, the Valley is the best move I have ever made,in regards to quality of life. I love and miss everyone in the Glebe though. I’m actually enjoying my work for once. I ‘m enjoying the country life,and am happier over all. Did I tell you my son Dustin is at Nippissing University, studying to be a teacher(1st year). He’s already talking about teaching abroad. Your experinces and tips may come in handy for him later. Thanks!

– This one stuck to me. If you happen to be in the Philippines during one of those adventures, visit my hometown Dumaguete City. It’s known for motorcycles. People decide not to drive cars there. They have motorcycles instead. So you can rent one easily and go around the beautiful island of Negros.
Now I sound like a travel brochure. Tsk tsk.
Anyhow, I love your blog. Love it to bits. I find the way you write about Asian culture sensitive, sincere, and earnest. Hope this goes on and on…

I’ve already explained the title of my blog several times. Forgive me for choosing not to include your comment. If you had taken the time to dig a little deeper instead of spending two seconds here and lashing out with an unsubstantiated claim, you’d already know this.
I’ve written several posts about Pearl S. Buck and her book, My Several Worlds. I used this title because this is my favorite book and it has been a constant source of inspiration since I left Canada five years ago. I’ve also tagged my blog title with A Global Mind in Asia (which is my own creation) so as not to confuse her fans.
This addition prevents publishers from coming after me and allows me to pay tribute to one of the greatest writers who has ever lived.
