I’m always curious if those caves are somewhat inhabited by locals or just a travel site not for public residency?

I’ve wondered the same thing. Some of the remote monasteries that I visited in Georgia were inhabited by monks, so I assume that we could say the same thing about the cave monasteries.

Wow, looks like an amazing place to visit. Six thousand caves? It must be a fascinating place to go exploring, though I’m assuming a lot of it is off-limits? It would be wonderful to wander through and hear monks chanting.
