I always thought that learning Chinese numbers can be very difficult to count for many foreigners. When Chinese people are counting large numbers they use a base 10,000 and not a base 1,000. This can be very confusing.
When you are talking about a number such as a million, Chinese people will say 一百万 (100×10,000).
I agree. Numbers can definitely be confusing in Chinese. However, I think the same can be said about numbers in English. My students really seem to struggle with larger numbers.
