Every traveler knows that music is a staple for the open road. Music can be a powerful reminder of where we’ve been. To this day, I still can’t listen to Coldplay or Outkast without being reminded of my travels in Thailand with my friend Claire in 2004. And any time I hear an old Depeche Mode song, I’m instantly transported back to the summer of 1990 when I was on the road with my high school track team. Music is powerful stuff and I’m sure every traveler has a small arsenal of tunes that remind them of a certain time or place.
This is one reason why I was keen to jump on the promotional band wagon with CNN’s new weekly travel web series featuring the indie rock duo, Handsome Furs. After listening to their music and watching their travel videos, I couldn’t help but feel a connection to these two young Canadian artists. I wish I had thought to document my own musical endeavors in China.
I obviously missed the period of my life, but I won’t miss the opportunity to help out Dan Boeckner and Alexei Perry, two young musicians from Montreal, Canada on tour in Asia. They are the subjects of CNN’s new series, Indie Asia: On Tour with Handsome Furs. Follow them as they play music throughout China and other destinations in Asia. Each video features travel footage that includes famous sights, sounds, local cuisines, lodging and, of course, live shows.
Become a fan of Handsome Furs on Facebook and find out when new episodes are released.
