Photo and Commentary by Craig Swanson.
The Root Glacier is a short two mile hike from Kennecott, Alaska and one of the most accessible and active glaciers in Alaska. It’s surface is dotted with deep blue pools, canyon-like corridors, and meandering mini-streams that often spill into deep vertical shafts that seem to go straight through the glacier. The towns of McCarthy and Kennecott are fun, quirky little bush towns right in the middle of the largest national park in the US. Activities here range from backpacking and mountaineering, to day hikes, ice-climbing, alpine skiing and even river rafting.

Great image. Is there a link for more of Craig's work?
Hi Stevo,
Craig was one of the photographers I contacted when I wrote the post on Glacier Trekking. He was kind enough to send me this image. I asked about a link, but he told me that he didn\\'t have a website. He took it while hiking with St. Elias Guides and asked me to link to their web site instead. http://www.steliasguides.com
Yeah…ditto and ditto?
Michael,
I know. I know. I\\'d love to see more of Craig\\'s work. If he were online, he\\'d be at the top of my RSS reader.
I know. I\\'ve only got the link he sent me. Sometimes you gotta work with what you have!
Very nice shot!
