It’s been awhile since I’ve written a personal blog. John is immersed in school applications at the moment. He is planning to attend NCCU or NTU in the fall to get a Global MBA. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him so organized, stressed, and excited at the same time. Not only will he be getting back into the world of business, but he’ll be doing something that he’s passionate about as well. After helping him with his admissions essays, I have a greater understanding of what his personal goals are over the next three years.
As usual, I’ve kept my finger in a bunch of different pots. You know me. I can never just do ONE thing. I always have to be in a world of chaos to make things interesting. I’ve come to realize that when it comes to me, there will always be something to work on, something to fix, something to improve on, something to change. Sometimes I find myself going through my day thinking, “I want to do that!” or “If only I had time to do this.” Then I step back and look at what I am doing. My mother’s right. No wonder I get sick sometimes. But hey, I can’t complain. I am happy.
John and I are busy planning a few upcoming excursions for the next few months. This weekend, we’re taking off on the bike for a weekend excursion around the island. I’m really looking forward to getting out of the city for a few days, and I’m praying that the rain forecast for Saturday doesn’t interfere with our plans too much. We’ve got rain gear, and we’re usually packed for all contingencies, but it’s so much nicer when you’re traveling by bike and you don’t have to worry about where you’re going to dry your socks and shoes out!
We’re also going to take advantage of our air miles again. I’m still shocked by the number of travelers I meet who don’t collect air miles or take advantage of these programs. This will be our fourth free flight in the last year and a half. We’re thinking of returning to Japan for a visit, or maybe we’ll hit Singapore or Seoul.
I’ve been busy with a new band. Actually, I played with these guys several times last year, but then I got sick. We reconnected just before the wedding, and ended up playing at a gig over the Chinese New Year. It was a success, and we managed to get a few more gigs lined up over the next couple of months. We’ve been practicing regularly over the weekends. We just got a new drummer, and boy, does he ever make a difference! The sound is really starting to come together.
I’m back in belly dancing classes again, and I’m still squeezing in a good run or two.
My job is probably the most stressful part of my week. I really really miss teaching. I’ve discovered that I’m not the kind of person who can sit in front of a computer all day pumping out short paragraphs and tests for ESL learners. Speaking of teaching, my Tuesday evening creative writing class is going really well, although my Tuesday schedule is not. I leave the house at 7:45 am and I get home at 10:30. However, it’s worth every second. I love this class. If you haven’t had a chance to check out the Student Writer section here, please do so. These kids are really talented. When you stop to consider that some of these kids have only been learning English for a few years, you can really appreciate the amount of hard work and time that goes into each piece of writing. At the moment, they are struggling through their first poems, and we’ve also tackled a proper research paper.
Finally, you may have noticed that the content of this site has changed a bit. I’ve been concentrating on writing some cornerstone posts for My Several Worlds. I’m slowly moving away from the concept of a personal blog, and have started to include some interesting new features. I’m pretty happy with the changes so far, and I hope you’ll all be pleased with what’s in store.

I have my fingers crossed for John and that he gets in. And maybe in the long term this new job will be a stepping stone. And who doesn’t have a ton of things going on? I think it is perfectly normal. And you are staying busy which is a good thing right now.
And travel means new photos for you. I love your photos.
Wow, things have been busy in the K. household.
The new look for the site is good. My only suggestion would be some way to make the most recent post stand out a bit more at the top – this post is a little buried. I didn’t realise you’d written it until I saw the link on Facebook. But that’s a minor gripe – everything else looks great.
If you’re with a new band, you’re going to need some promo photos. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll be happy to help you out. Also, I’d like to hear you guys play live, and shoot some pics. Since giving my old 20D to Selina, she’s become a photo addict, so you might have two of us sticking cameras in your face
.
Also I’ve got an idea for a concept shoot that will need a bellydancer, so if you are any of your classmates are interested let me know. It probably won’t happen until summer – still need to get a few more ideas together and source a few props.
Good luck
Goodness, you have been busy, Carrie. Where do you find the energy?
Hi Carrie,
You have a great page here. I will add you to my links list.
Thanks for dropping by Multiply!
Hi Nancie,
Thanks very much for stopping by and commenting. I enjoyed your site as well. Terrific photos, by the way!
Hey, I hope you had fun and nice weather last weekend!
I’ve been meaning to ask you, how is your heatlh nowadays? You had a fair deal of ear problems before the wedding, I hope you got through your stay at home & Mexico without problems?
Hi Kim,
We had a great weekend. My health is, as usual, up and down. Someone must have been smiling down on me while I was home, because I only had a few minor flare-ups. It was hard being in Mexico by that gorgeous pool everyday and not swim, though. I’ve been dealing with several issues since I got back. In fact, I’m getting some test results back tomorrow, and I’m hoping for a definitive answer so I can go about making whatever changes I need to be more comfortable. Wish me luck!
*health, not heatlh…
hey Carrie! Read your post on AsianRamblings, loved it! Very captivating, and made me wonder if I should be tubing in Vang Vieng instead! I know it can be overcrowded with travellers though. We’re actually deciding between Myanmar and Laos – although I was leaning abit more towards Myanmar but your post just caught me in between. Would love to hear more abt it! Have you convinced your husband to come to Singapore??? I’m gonna write a few more posts on S’pore, hope that’ll help win his heart!
I agree with Mia. It’s only good to have lots of things going on. More fun that way.
“I’ve come to realize that when it comes to me, there will always be something to work on, something to fix, something to improve on, something to change.” That’s the beauty of life, there’s always more opportunities and things to learn. It never stops. I find that the question is what to choose, and how to prioritize, when there are so many different options.
BTW, taking belly dancing classes seems really fun, and I like the beautiful clothes that most belly dancers wear. Would love to try it sometime.
Erica,
I know what you mean. I’m interested in so many things, and never seem to have the time to explore everything properly. I guess we all do the best we can. You should give belly dancing a try. I sucked at first, but it was amazing when I actually realized that I was starting to look graceful instead of feeling like I’m all arms and legs. Dancing definitely gives you self-confidence. It’s ‘feel-good’ exercise, for sure!
fingers crossed for John
Thanks Michelle! Mine are crossed, too!
Good luck John, here’s hoping everything works out the way you guys want!
