The Jumbo Hostel in Sweden

The world’s first hotel airplane has finally landed.  The Jumbo Hostel in Stockholm, Arlanda, Sweden opened for business in January 2009.  Even families can enjoy an evening here, with quad dorm rooms available for up to four guests. Fancy a night in the captain’s chair? The cockpit has been converted into a luxury suite.

The plane, which is a Pan American Boeing 747, was built in 1976.  Parked a short distance away from Arlanda Airport, the hostel boasts 25 rooms and 85 beds. Each 6x6x9 room comes with separate bathroom facilities, and the  overhead luggage compartments have wisely been left in each room for handy storage.

The hostel offers rooms for travelers on different budgets. At this time, the Jumbo Hostel is charging $43 (350 SEK) for a night in a dormitory room to $410 (3300 SEK) for a night in the cockpit.

Even folks who have a fear of flying will enjoy this flight. This is one airplane that guarantees a safe landing every time since it never leaves the ground.
