Four months to the wedding and three months before I head home and we still have a billion and one things to do before any of this happens! John and I are in full wedding mode now. This month has been especially busy with both of us taking advantage of the extra teaching hours that summer always has in store for ESL teachers in Taiwan. Despite our hectic schedules, we knocked off some major items on our wedding to-do list.
Well, I guess I should rephrase that. I knocked some major items off of my list. My flights are bought and paid for. I’ve also ordered my bridesmaid dresses, which will be shipped out sometime over the next two months. My dress has arrived and is sitting in storage, awaiting my arrival.
John has yet to purchase airline tickets. Nor has he figured out what his groomsmen are wearing.
I managed to get him to sit down for a day and help plan out the music for our wedding, and he has been extra helpful with the bridal favors, but I have to admit, I’m starting to get concerned with his lack of enthusiasm over his own attire and that of his groomsmen. I have a feeling this is going to be a last-minute affair. I tried being extra helpful earlier this month by finding a bunch of beachy wedding attire for him to consider, but alas, he has other things to worry about at the moment.
There’s still plenty of time to get things done though, and I’ve always been one of those annoying people that has things done waayyyyy ahead of time. This lady is usually well-prepared. At the moment, I’m fighting off the urge to get the luggage down to start packing.

It sounds like he might not as good a planner as you. No worries. There are probably some things you can do to motivate him. For example, plan a day where both of you go shopping. Make picking the suits part of the day.
Just tell him that going naked or wearing a bathing suit is not an option. And remind him that there are no tux places near the site. And tell him that he really needs to book the flights now because some of the airlines will be raising fares. And try try try not to fly United. They are starting to really get a bad reputation here in the US.
guy’s are much more relaxed about this….no rush!
Le Rhee,
He is an excellent planner. Unfortunately, part of the problem is living in Taiwan and not being able to find anything in his size. And we all know what happens when we get on the computer to search for things. We inevitably get side-tracked….
Mia,
Thanks for the tips! I should say, John is very reliable and he will get it done. I just hope it happens sooner rather than later! I’ve known what I’m going to get my bridesmaids for months and months, but when it comes down to groomsmen and beach weddings, let’s face it, there aren’t very many options!
I’ve heard about United. Airlines are really taking a turn for the worse, aren’t they?
Matt,
Ha! You’re right. I’m being a bride-zilla!
I always pack things early
I guess for a guy the choice comes down to a suit or a suit so no real need to rush. But then I’ve managed to make it to my mid-thirties without ever having worn a tie, much less a suit, so I could be wrong.
Ha Michelle! Are you one of those people who throws everything in a pile and starts ‘weeding out’ weeks before you actually leave?
Craig,
Whoa! That’s amazing. You’ve never worn a tie?
Beach weddings can be tricky. The weather might be too hot for a suit, so with John’s size, we need to come up with an alternative that looks great and feels comfortable.
There’s more choice than you’d expect though. We’ve thought of linen pants, chinos or light weight trousers. For shirts, he could go with light cotton, silk, or linen. Short-sleeve or long sleeve? Jacket or no jacket? Collar? Footwear? Eeps, I’m starting to stress again.
At least I know that no matter what he decides on, he’s going to look fantastic in it.
OMG Carrie, I’m feeling like a man now!
I haven’t seen ANYthing for my wedding yet.. and I have only five months till there. We decided the date only this morning and the venue is not 100% sure yet.
Dress? Will try to find on the way to Brazil.. Bridesmaid? what is this again?? hahahah
I have an idea to Felipe’s clothes, no tie for him.. but we’ll also try to find them on the way. If I let him decide, he might turn up wearing a t-shirt and flip-flops (and I’m not joking!)
I am writing the ceremony myself.. this is actually the only thing worrying me lately.
I guess I need some “woman injections” from you!
sigh, I am.
Cris,
We all move in different ways. You are a 100% go-getter and there’s no doubt in my mind that you and Felipe will pull your wedding off with style and ease, and I know you’ll look gorgeous doing it as well!
I admire people making sites because it is not always easy to come up with new material and information all the time. I am always looking for good information and latest news and I just found your blog about Wedding Countdown: Four Months To Go!
There are many blogs and i just found yours while doing some searches, what are the odds, thx for the info
