We were sitting in a travel agency in Taipei on Sunday night when my boss called to tell me I had Monday off. Typhoon Fung-Wong was heading our way with a force to be reckoned with and was due to hit central Taiwan sometime that night. By 1:00am we were experiencing heavy rain and wind, which howled its way throughout the night and shook our building with force. By the next morning, things were quiet again here in Banciao. The wind was bad and it rained most of the day. Cities along Taiwan’s eastern coastline sustained most of the damage from the storm with landslides and flashfloods.
Typhoon days are as common in Taiwan as snow days are back home. In addition to weatherproofing our home, John and I also use these days to catch up on things around the house. Since John can’t lure me out of the house with promises of exploring, eating and shopping, and I can’t go to the gym, it means we I have the time to catch up on things I don’t have time to do during the week.
We made the best of our lazy day at home by putting some thought into the type of music we want for the ceremony and reception. I spent loads of time on my blog and my unprocessed photos from Penghu, and I managed to knock off a couple of posts which can be kept on the backburner for our time away. I also got through a load of emails, which I’ve been putting off for weeks. And we finally figured out what was wrong with my pesky MP3, which I haven’t been able to load new music on for months. All in all, it was a rewarding day. I’m ready to tackle the rest of my week.

I dread the winter here, eeek snowstorms. But how do you typoon proof a house?
also my jewlery pics are up
hey carrie,
it’s been waaay too long since we have seen each other. john and i set up a double date for the 8th, sound good to you? i thought we might mosey on over to eddy’s cantina and pig-out on some killer mexican food.
thanks for all the great comments on my blog. i have been neglecting my blogging duties this past month, pretty busy. you two have to come check out our new place. it’s a stylish little matchbox we call home.
i hope we can make the date on the 8th happen, i have a lot of things i need to discuss with you.
take care,
David
p.s. what the heck is a “typoon”??…sounds like a southeast asian sex ritual!!…lol
Michelle,
We taped up the windows and moved the furniture away from the walls. Last October we were traveling in Japan when a typhoon hit. We came home to water-covered floors and leaky walls — and we live on the 25th floor!
Just checked out your jewelry. Nylon….very 80′s. Fun and chic.
Hey David,
And that’s what happens when you blog on the run. Thanks for catching that dude. Yep. John told me about it. It’s the first double date he’s ever arranged. I almost fell off my chair. But the 8th is a no-go. That’s a Friday night and I have to work. I thought we were doing this day o’fun on the 9th? I’m looking forward to seeing you two!
yes, the 9th…duh, my bad.
A typhoon day sounds interesting. I like rain better than snow in many ways since you don’t have to go out and shovel it. It sounds like you managed to get quite a bit done.
Hi Mia,
I miss good old-fashioned snow days though. Everyone thinks I’m crazy, but it’s true. Snow days mean skating in the backyard, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, winter-wonderland walks or just hanging around inside with hot cocoa and a good book. Rainy days are dreary, but they’re great for catching up on sleep and other odds and ends around the house.
