This is my feel-sorry-for-myself post for the year and a quick update for everyone who’s been asking. I had the tube removed from my ear on Monday. To make a long story short, the swelling in my head is finally gone after two months, but I have to go back to the hospital next week for a minor procedure to have all the dead tissue removed.
The good news is that I’m feeling better. The doctors believe the worst is over. I think my convalesence is finally at an end, but I’m paying the consequences for being so ill. In addition to noticing a marked decrease in my hearing ability, which may or may not come back, I’ve also shelled out a ton of cash and missed loads of Chinese lessons that will be hard to catch up on. The medication I’ve been on for two months has worn my immune system down and I’m experiencing some nasty side effects that I’m not going to get into.
I returned to work this week and found out this morning that I no longer have my morning job. They let me go. I can’t say I blame them but it was hard to hear. I’m a hard worker and nothing like this has ever happened to me before. I really tried to keep this from affecting my job performance, and still went to work despite feeling like crap. Needless to say, I’m pretty bummed about this, although I’m trying to look on the bright side of things. Maybe it’s for the better. Now I have some time to get better and get my strength up, but damn, we needed that money for the wedding.

Hey Carrie,
So glad to hear that things are finally turning the corner for you health wise girl.
I just recently found your blog via twitter and my advice to you for what it’s worth, and it may sound cliche’, is to follow your passion, don’t worry too much about that day job loss. There really is no loyalty in most of these employment relationships today anyway.
Follow your passion and the money will come to you instead of you chasing after it. You have so much going for you, a fabulous eye for the camera, well spoken and written blog…raw talent..so work it baby you know what I’m sayin’
Many people get caught up with fixating on the things that they don’t have. if you were to give them a doughnut all they would see was the hole.
So many times I hear people that have a job for example, they are always talking about how they have no time to do things that they really enjoy. Then, when they lose a job and have the time to do those things, instead of seizing the opportunity they create their own obstructions saying well once I get back to work I’m going to do (blank). and you can fill in the blank
Live in the moment. This is an opportunity baby, and a time to think outside the box.
If learning Chinese is your passion.. you now have extra time to catch up on those lessons… go for it. If it’s your blog, photography..whatever it is, go for it. The money stuff will work itself out… you’ll see…. I’m telling ya…

I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better. Kind of sucks about the job. If you want to work a summer camp I know a handsome guy looking for teachers.
so, with the free time you can join a band!
glad that stuff is finally behind you. medical problems are the worst.
SJR,
It still amazes me who has managed to find me on Twitter. Thanks for your very kind message. And you’re right. I’m bummed about the job, but part of me is starting to see that I can use this time to my benefit. I’ve moaned about all the things I need to catch up on and now I have the time to do it. Thanks so much for reminding me what life should be about.
Hey Stevo,
You know I’d be there in a second if I could get the time off from my other job. Don’t think I haven’t thought about it! ;-P
MJ,
Ha ha. You’re right. I should get back into music and was thinking today that I need to give the guys a call. I fell out of touch with them when all this started. Really though. There’s only one band I wanna rock with. I’m sure you know who I mean!
Carrie,
hey…wait…I didn’t see any band stuff on here..what are you holding out on us or what..lol j/k
(( You know… your profile pic does resemble a Fleetwood Mac era Stevie Nicks now that you mention it…))

Carrie, this post is for you. I don’t know if you’ve seen it yet. I’m glad you’re feeling a little better. Stay optimistic about jobs/money. Things will be fine.
SJR,
I moonlighted as the lead singer of a rock and roll band in Northern China for three years before moving to Taiwan. I’ve been singing since I was a little girl. Stevie Nicks was one of my idols growing up. I do a mean impression. I need to tap into that creative outlet again. It’s been too long….
FW,
I missed that post. I’m touched. Thank you very very much. First of all, I love love love the series you’re writing at the moment. It’s brilliant. I think it’s wonderful that you’re doing so well with your writing. I have so much to catch up on, but I’m still with you girl, and I admire everything that you’re doing!
Hey, Carrie – Thoth here, back in Miaoli.
Sorry to hear things are so tough for you. Just enjoy life with John. Don’t worry about the job you lost. There is nothing better than having somebody you can be with! Besides, you still have the afternoon job
Thoth!
Wow! That’s great news. I’m so happy to hear that you’re back and you’re close by. How about coming along to the next blogger meet-up. We’ve got loads to catch up on, don’t we? And it would finally be nice to meet you in person. Thanks for your well-wishes.
Ahw man, that sucks. But good to read your health is getting better again, that’s the most important thing. And you now have the chance to take it a bit easier and recover. I’m sure the job situation will work itself out, take good care of yourself!
Thanks Kim!
MJ,
Weird. Your comment came through my inbox but seems to have lost itself again. I don’t know why this keeps happening. Sorry about that. Stevie is terrific. There’s no other voice like it in the world.
