A Scooter Mishap and a Lesson Learned.

Well, I’m doing the ole two finger shuffle across my keyboard these days thanks to a delayed reaction to a scooter accident last week. I was hit while walking home from the MRT station and didn’t know how serious the injury was until earlier this week.

I was hit on Friday while crossing the street. The scooter didn’t hit me really hard, but it knocked me off balance. I hit my right shoulder on the curb. I wasn’t down for more than a few seconds. The driver saw me stand up and drove away. I assumed everything was okay.

I felt fine the next morning, so I went to the gym for a light weight training session and a good long run. I ran another 5K on Monday after work. That’s when I noticed a deep twinge in my shoulder socket. The next day my shoulder got progressively worse and by the time I got home I was in agony. I sweated through Tuesday night before waking John up early on Wednesday morning to take me to the hospital. I couldn’t lift my arm and it felt like it was going to come out of its socket.

Once we got the X-rays back, I found out that I’ve injured the ligaments and tendons keeping my arm in place. I compounded the injury by working out over the weekend. To make a long story short, I’m now wearing a sling. The doctor says I might need to wear it for six weeks and if it doesn’t get better, I might be looking at surgery.

Lesson learned. When you get hit be a scooter, get yourself checked out and take it easy for a few days afterwards to make sure everything’s ok.
