Interviews, Study Cases, Photo Shoots and Blogs

Home and Sky

Things really started to roll this week.

Last week, I was contacted by Dr. Hipsher, a lecturer at Bangkok University.  Dr. Hipsher is an expat living in Thailand.  He wrote and published an academic study titled, The Nature of Asian Firms,  in 2006 for a UK publishing firm.  Dr. Hipsher is researching and writing a new book, which features case studies of expats living abroad.  He has been reading My Several Worlds and asked me if I’d be interested in being a case study for his new book.  I’ve been working on a series of questions for him over the past week.

There must be something in the air concerning expats and living abroad.  Two days after Dr. Hipsher contacted me, Lizza from Expat Interviews left a message for me about My Several Worlds and wondered if they could interview me.  I spent most of yesterday answering her questions.

Last night, they posted the thread to my interview as one of their featured expats this week.  The site has a lot of great interviews with expats living all over the world and also provides some really helpful links.  Anyone living abroad can register and submit their own stories and thoughts.

The only thing that bothered me about the interview was my failure to preview the printed edition properly.  Grrr…..  I thought I’d gone over my answers really well before I submitted the final draft for posting.  I was a little miffed at myself when I realised I’d missed a major error in one of my answers.  Some English teacher I am!

Later this week, I’ll be helping Joanna Rees with another Discover Taipei assignment.

Last but not least, I launched a new blog last weekend called Taiwan Photographers.  It features the work of professional and amateur photographers in Taiwan.  I hope to feature a few articles about photography as well.  The New Hampshire Bushman has written some interesting posts about photography equipment.

So far, two bloggers I admire tremendously in the Taiwan blogosphere,  Michael Turton and David Reid, have submitted their photographs through Flickr.  I hope I can continue to feature them as regular photographers on the blog.  If you are interested in being featured on the blog, send me a link to your photo at taiwanphotographers@gmail.com or leave a comment for me on Taiwan Photographers.

Well done, great blog and great posts!!!

Thanks for the kind words! Good to know who is behind that blog.

But sadly, I’ve noticed that blogs that depend on voluntary submissions don’t prosper so much. I think you should either make it a group blog with a stable of reliably enjoyable photographers, or else set up a reader that grabs new photos off Flickr, Photobucket, etc, and ask people to submit.

Hi Michael. Thanks for stopping by. I’ve noticed the same thing, which is why I’ve also sent out some personal invites. I’d love to make it into a group blog. Thanks for your suggestions!
